Project: MoV Graphic Novel Part 2 - Character Concepts

So, I think I may have just over planned my graphic novel here. I knew I wanted to stray away from my usual anime style, and since - predictably - finding out that it's going to be a funny comic, found it not very befitting either. Thus, I tried to make up a style that's more American cartoon-ny, and here are the results.

P.S. Mainly these pictures are of Portia because I'm sexist like that.

Portia, Bassanio, and a Disney-ish head.
First initial sketch to just get me in the mood for it. I kept a lot of the features on Portia more or less the same, though (the slanted eyes, for example).

Portia
The rest were drawn during the wee hours of a school night. I think the most important thing I wanted to accomplish then was to draw peoples who looked different, and not just "different hair and eye colour" different.

Bassanio and Portia.
Portia and Nerissa/Jessica.
A stoned Antonio and a Bassanio.

HOLY SHIT, WHAT'S THIS?
It's pretty much me playing around with different styles but with the same head. Kind of like the style meme I did a while ago, except less messy, and there's a realistic girl and a furry version. Can you guess which each style tries to emulate?

Don't bother, because I didn't try to copy anything.

In the end, it didn't really matter how long I spent planning how the characters would look...

Project: MoV Graphic Novel Part 1 - Drafts

Title speaks for itself.

It's pretty much gibberish to the average reader as I shortened the script to fit the speech bubbles. That script is also the same script I will not be providing.
I also made it so that the characters are represented by the letters on their foreheads. This is the basic run down of who these characters are (or the important ones anyways):
  • Jessica
  • Lorenzo
  • Portia
  • Nerissa
  • Gratiano
  • Bassanio
  • Antonio
If these names don't ring a bell, then that's because you've never read the Merchant of Venice. And if you haven't done that, then you're even going to be left more clueless. I say you just stop trying to make sense of it and just gawk at the art stickmen.

The end peoples!
I know you can't wait for the real one to come out, right?

I draws in physics because I hate doing math

Yup, these pictures were scanned three months ago and are going up now. Oh well, "better late than never".

All of these pictures were drawn during my physics 11 course I took during summer. Yeah, I get bored when I'm supposed to be doing my homework. Who doesn't? (Check out my awesome physics work, too!)

A guy.
Oh well, like you know what the code on top means. I don't even remember.

Starfish loves you, loves you.
Yukiko in fursona form.
Yes, she's a sheep/goat. I thought I'd be cool and chose something out of the norm (ie canines and felines). Drawn on the same sheet as the picture above.
The head of a dragon. It's made of moonlight/comes from the moon and can be summoned by one of my mary-sues because we all know dragons make good attacks. I will not tell you what the name of the dragon is because it's just that lame.
I had to make for writing 12, of all the writing I did in the course, which I took at the same time as physics. I did the layout and coding all by myself! :)
A face and some brainstorming for my online portfolio website.
More brainstorming for a website for writing 12.
I had to make another website, but this one which offers advice. I was initially going for a banner with fictions' most notable characters, but I was short on time and used a generic site template.

Kanaria "life demon" form.
OHOHO, doesn't that "life demon" part sound lame already? Didn't I tell you that Kanaria started as an uber mary-sue? Of course she needed a bullshit second form obtained through a Sailor Moon-esque transformation - with wings!
Vocaloid Lily.
Lily was still in the process of being made when I drew this. This is probably among the first fanart of her! Gasp!

Yeah, didn't do so hot in physics. Oh well, that's the reason why I took it in summer school anyways!

Drawn with pencil and lined paper.
First picture drawn an index card.

School Doolies 6.3: Concepts

Did you think that I totally neglected any art over the past few months of absence? Of course not!
One of things I like doing is designing stuff, whether it's armor/clothing (my favourite, actually) or creatures (which, I will admit, I horribly suck at)

The most recent picture out of all the sketches I'm uploading right now. Not much to say about this. It's just armor and stuff. The top left is an archer, middle is a... thief, I believe, and the top right is just plain armor. The black-coloured outfit is just a better render of the top middle outfit.

Kanaria makes a colourful cameo! Ignoring her are some creature concepts. The girl on the bottom (under Kanaria) is suppose to be a pencil-case like this, with the back flap of her... "suit". Yeah...

A couple of knights. Hopefully, I'll upload all the pictures I have of them... so consider this a sneak preview unless I never upload them then it's just a picture that is not a sneak preview to anything.
Oh yeah, behold my ugly hiragana, lawl. (I'm sorry to those who are Japanese and are disguised by how ugly it is.)

Check out the other parts to this six part upload-spam series:
6.1: Studies

6.2: Kanaria and Anaria
6.4: Can You Keep a Secret
6.5: FANARTS
6.6: Miscellaneous Crap

Character Concepts: Kanaria

Today, I'm going to introduce you to an old, beloved character of mine's

Made soon after the creation of Anaria (you see what I did thar with their names? I thought it was so original back then) back in... say, grade 4, and originally dubbed “Kanria”. She was pretty much an emo version of Anaria.
I won’t go into a whole back story right now, but I will say that she was lame. Recently, I’ve begun a whole overhaul of her design, keeping only the part where she is somehow involved with a demon cat. Other than that, if you looked at old pictures, you wouldn’t see the similarities.
I think Anaria is in way too deep to change, though. Pity; Kanaria revised is pretty cool.

Reference spam of Kanaria's background - but more specifically, the type of youkai (demon) she was and all about that stuff. Hope you can read my writing, but if not, these youkais are pretty much "half-bird-half-iunno" and they're full bird youkais' slaves.
And, hey,  look! Even this has some YYH on it.

Now more concentrating on Kanaria, her gestures, clothing, attacks, styles... yeah. Practice thing, pretty much.

Revamped her original dress design (because, back in the day, everyone had to wear one for some stupid occasion I can't even remember now)

Playing with styles. Trying to give her a style which isn't my default one.

I don't know if this belongs here, but this is the revamp of the cat demon she would turn into, but I scrapped that, so...
Oh well, enjoy Foopa. :D

Drawn on scrap photocopy paper with mechanical pencil.
The third and fourth picture is drawn on a Canson Basics Sketch book with mechanical pencil.
Stay tuned for more…!

(PS: Sorry for using weeaboo words here and there; back when she was created, I've always used those words to describe her, and I only found it fitting if I continued that)
