Fanart: Hiiro no Kakera

I'm a cheapo. Even though I'm an exec for animu club, I stated early on that if we get like a pathetic amount of entries to the fanart contests, then I'm going to submit something into it. Well, last time I checked, we got a grand total of one entry. I'm not going to make it that easy.

Theme:It's better to give than to recieve.

Originally, it was going to be a 4koma kind of thing so people can actually get the theme. Here are sum sketches.

Actually drawn on the same sheet of paper this picture was done on.

So this was going to be the "winning" picture, in the sense that it was going to be coloured-in nicely and they won't be in chibi.

At this point, I scrapped the whole picture because I didn't want to draw all the chibi dudes, and I was growing to hate the picture the more I continued. The lines were too thick for my tastes, and everyone looked a little funneh.
 
It was a shame because I really like how I did her legs.


So, I opened up a new openCanvas window and drew a totally new picture.

Initially, the bottom picture was going to be cell-shaded, but meh. I didn't think it looked nice half-way into the picture.
Half-assed background is is half-assed.

Bleh, with a picture this crappy, I think I'll lose (but not to that one legit entry, anyways).

Also got an Ipashaa (or something like that) version stashed somewhere, but I scrapped it for Hiiro no Kakera (for no real reason, mind you, other than the latter's designs were easier).

That being said...

It's about time I made myself a new ID for my deviantART. Seriously, the one I was using before was a sketch a did on whim so I could have an ID. Needless to say, I spent way more time on this.

Oh yeah, and don't know if I said this, but I found on the openCanvas website that they opened up a sister site, PGN Community, and the cool thing about this is that you can upload your event files and it'll actually play 'em. So here's the first entry on the site:

I had the concept for the picture for a while. Back around August, I actually had another sketch planned out that I was going to use for my new ID.

Didn't like it so much, but I wanted to keep my stuffed animals in the back. So I tried again.

I wasn't too fond of that, though. I did like the whole "drawing on my page" concept, though. So I drew a new one but put Yukiko in a different pose.

The clothes on both these pictures are pretty much the same ones (as they're actually clothes I wear).

I outlined and coloured the picture during a family dinner party. With any kind of dinner party my parents throw, my sister and I would just finish our food early, and stay locked up in our rooms until dessert or something. In the meanwhile, I had lots of time to finish this:

I'm actually quite proud of how this came out. I don't have a set palette or anything for skin so most of the time, the tones get a little funky looking. Here, the skin's nice and bright, and I love the technique I used to blot the colours in.
Skirt and hair's also nice (the skirt especially just for the folds).
But yeah, really, when I finished the picture I was like, "OMG, did I ever improve! If I keep it up, at this rate, I might actually produce stuff coloured pro-like!"

In total, from the final sketch to the colouring, I'd say the picture took about less than a day to complete.

Floating on Heart Bubbles

The name kind of just appeared. There's really no reason I called it that, especially since it's a heart balloon, there's only one, and she's not floating on, she's floating by.

However, stupid deviantART's size limit forced me to make it lose a lot of weight, so the animation's a lot faster on my actual avvie there.

I'm Late! I'm Late!

Yay, some belated fun-ness. Instead of doing homework or sleeping, I'm updating this for you. In the next hour, my friend would be going to work too! Woo, insomnia.

So it was my friend's birthday a while back. I promised her that I would draw her a card (as she already gave me something for my birthday, it was only fair!) and I did.

So my friend is leaning more to the girly side. When I thought of what she would like, Alice in Wonderland came to mind.

Not too pro with drawing chibis, but I tried at least.

Final Product:

I left out the back page because as I was working on this picture, I was juggling another big project. Yet I still spammed the background. Yes, that was where my "personality" came in. See what you can find in the back! (Like in one of those I-Spy books!)

When my parents saw me inking the picture, and do you know what they're reaction was?

"You're wasting time!"

You'd think they'd be proud or something. Ah well.

SS Cell - sketches for a Bio project

What I've been working on for a while for Bio. First, it was due like... a week ago, so I was about to finish it all in one day. Then I got switched out of that class, and I assumed (even though I perfectly knew) that the comparison project didn't exist  there. But alas, Zanatta wanted me to hand it in, and after much procrastination, I finally did.
Nothing I had expected it to be, but my original idea involved a lot of hours in PS, and tons of coloured printer inks. Plus, when I was about to print it, PS said, "SCREW YOU!"

Rough sketch - just for the idea. Did a design for a pirate too.

Second draft. Referenced some pirate ships this time. Wished I had some plain paper on me, but on well. I was also planning to tape some sheets together for the flagpoles, but that never happened.

Final product. Quickly coloured it in openCanvas and stuck some words on it. You can't see that version, though.

Kinda proud with the final product, too. Good for one day of colouring, huh?
