What I Did Today

What I did today!
You know you're that bored when you start recording how uneventful your day is so other people can see how bored you are, too.

EDIT: I did something else today, too:

Tumblr-tan
I don't particularly like Tumblr or anything.
I think I killed my tablet by pressing so hard on the pen.

Made in SAI.

Happy Birthday, LoZ!

And you know what I found out recently?
Zelda's 25 years old

Whatever. In acknowledgment, I present to you a Twilight Princess looking Link holding an ocarina because we still haven't finished our replay yet.
Link and his Ocarina of Time
I bet he's playing the Sun's Song because that shit is useful.

Kind of looks blah. I blame SAI's marker tool for that, even though it's really fun to use.

Made in SAI (if you didn't that earlier)

I wasn't satisfied with just drawing that, though. So I figured I'd do another sketch of the things I was wearing that day.
Pants are too big
Yup, that's me in my oversized hoodie struggling with oversized jeans that required me to pull it up every five minutes.
Yeah, I really don't have any clothes which properly fit me, lawl.

Ugh, woops, forgot the K.

On another note, though I love openCanvas, their tools just don't feel the same as SAI when I just feel like doodling. Maybe I'll just save it just for doing more pro works of art.

Made in openCanvas.

And finally, the most recent picture I made recently:

Can't do pinups to save my life.
Yeah. That's what it was supposed to be.

Can't tell what she's wearing? Well, you're not the only one.

Productive today when I got home

Uncharacteristically felt like drawing todays when I got back home.
So I did.

It's a shame how I don't wear my Skullcandy headphones too often. I just threw them on today for the same of it being pink day (even though I barely wore any pink; better than the guys who just pinned pink slips of paper instead though).
I spent way too long drawing this than I should have.

And I don't know why my hair isn't black in this picture. Close enough?

Drew while listening to depressing anime background music. Chyeah am I deep.
Oh well, missed Valentines day. At least it's still Feburary so there's my excuse.
Drawing this made me realize how much I still suck at hands. Why?!
And least the colouring it pretty.

How could I resist?

Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls is AWESOME.
Seriously, go click the link if you already haven't. Watch it, subscribe to it, love it.

And in the spirit of it, I drew all the fanarts in Paint!
Hitoshi-SAN
"I die a little from the inside every time Hitoshi goes 'rawr'"
AGREED.

So SPOILER:
Hitoshi's house gets broken into one day and he's kidnapped by who we'll refer to as "Rapist-kun". After being saved by Rakku and co, he starts having fantasies about him. (However, all the people think he's having fantasies of himself since it pretty is much him with brown hair.)

Rapist-kun is too smexy for you
I died laughing when I saw this part. How could I not do fanart of it?!
Of course, this doesn't touch on how amazing the actual scene in the anime is. Not even close.

Made in MS Paint.

And now something completely different:

What happens when I order a large hoodie
I love wearing it... just not in public.
The K stands for our school name, since I've got school pride.

Making our contests a lot more impressive than it should be

By that, I refer to our animu club's Christmas fanart contest. I felt bad for the pitiful amount of entries so out of the goodness of my heart, I made some moar!

An uber crappy looking Miku fanart.

I guess my scanner hated it so much that when I tried to scan it, nothing came up. I drew it on the same sheet as the bottom picture, but that was all that I saw. My scanner does this thing where it'd crop off all the white space. Obviously, the picture's not white - or even remotely close so I conclude that it must look too bad for HQ.
Which is fine because nothing's more befitting of ugly pictures than having them shown to the world via shaky, blurry camera shots.

Drawn on printer paper with pencil, coloured with crappy pencil crayons.

It's a **** in a box!
I just like to say that, on my defense, this was a friend's suggestion. I don't really like Naruto.
If you can't guess what Naruto's gift is, I'll give you a hint.

Made with pencil and Sharpie.

But you know what I do like?

100% accurate
THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S GAKUEN HANDSOME! Go check out the opening, and you'll understand why I think the purple hair guy is the best one.
And yes, it's a real game. Obviously, it's not going to be released by a big named company, but I say this is just as good! Check out its lesbian sister: Gakuen Madonna.

And hey, even the dumbest looking things have good fanart.

Made in SAI.
It's such a shame that it doesn't have dodge and burn!

But before I go, I just have to spread the freakin' love. I don't know if anyone's aware of this, but there's been this trend of homemade animes - AKA the mutant love child of ugly, MS Paint art and Movie Maker. I've seen a lot of bad ones, but this one... There's just something about this one which image (or maybe I should say sound) I can't get out of my head:

"I'm so arigatou-ful"
- Rakku-chan, not being weeaboo

Yeah, my sister walked in on it during the part where they have the stolen head shots and she was like, "It doesn't look that bad." Then I rewinded it back to the opening and she was like, "Nevermind."

Lets just say they're related to love... PART 2

First and foremost, I'd like to mourn over the loss of my agenda. Yup, after midterms finished, I can't seem to find it. It's really a shame because I had so much more I could've uploaded in there. That and I totally forgot I had a Chem quiz in the morning - and a Japanese test. Needless to say, I was pretty screwed today.
Time to rely on scraps of lined paper nao. Or maybe my iPod or something.

Anyways, on today's menu, here's some more pictures that follow the same tangent as a previous post that you can probably see just by scrolling down but I'm appealing to your inner laziness by linking it anyways.

Look familiar? It's pretty much a redrawn version of one of the agenda pics I had, except shaded better, I gave a shit about the composition, and generally looks better.

It's a good thing that I didn't include the version with the cheesy words written all over it.

Drawn on Strathmore sketchbook paper with mechanical pencil.

"Why did you leave me standing?"
You can tell that I'm having an artist block or something when, like the above picture, I just redraw old stuff.
I have to say that I like this way better than the original picture, even if I used paint to do it. I mean, at least here, you can kinda see the rain. Kinda...

Still can't see how the song relates with women and car washes still (refer to original picture, but eh, who cares).

Made with tempura.

Hm, one of those things that looked better in my head. I don't really like this picture at all. Head be too big, the shading is uber crappy... among other things. I kind of like the shading on the background, though. But that's really it.

Drawn on Strathmore sketchbook paper with mechanical pencil and Artist's Loft water-soluble pencil.

Dip pen tests among other things

I get excited over art supplies. No surprise, no?

Check out the stuff I bought over the weekend:

Speedball sketching set
WOOT. The coolest and the most recent thing I've gotten: a dip pen set. Comes with six nibs and two pen holders. Now all I need is some gold ink and I'm all set for what I had been planning to do all this time.

Did some trial runs with them on a piece of index card. I used some green ink I had which was supposed to be used for refilling Tria markers. Only used the three big pen nibs, though, because they looked a little easier to clean.
Dip pen tests
Serious ink blotting, much? I partly blame that towards my inexperience, and to the fact that I couldn't really dip the nib into the ink as it only had a spout used to refill empty markers with.
I love how the tip of the nib always catches onto the paper when I draw with it, too.

Always good to practice good care taking, too. Thus, I got an excessively big bottle of pen cleaner.

Pen cleaner - 150 mL - imagine that it's flipped counterclockwise for you
I was about to buy a slightly smaller container of it I found on the sale rack because it was used and was dripping the stuff everywhere. However, my dad had a problem with the dripping.
Sucks that I got such a huge bottle of that when I bought a puny tub (if I can even call it that) of brush cleaner:

Old Master's Brush Cleaner - 1/4 onz
And I just started to get into watercolours, too!
I love the smell. Reminds me of lemon dish soap, except less strong.

Oh, and I bought a Moleskine notebook.
Dark blue Moleskine
Nope, still don't see why people love them so much. Maybe it's because I bought a notebook instead of a sketchbook. Because I really wouldn't be able to do any paintings in mine's when I can't even write in pen without it showing on the other side.

I think you guys all say my Artist's Loft watercolour set, too. I don't know, though there's more colours, I kind of prefer the Talens one over it. Just *something* about the paint that bugs me.

Lets just say they're related to love...

First and foremost, guess who I saw at the mall today?
IT'S A FRICKING GIANT PIKACHU. *Hyperventilates*
Yeah, there was this promotion for Pokemon Black and White happening at the mall. There was this activity section (which I assumed were for children, which is a shame) where you could colour in the new starters (so wanted to do that), make a paper Pikachu visor, get your face painted, and - of course - sample the new game.

Anyways, moving away from Pokemon and to actual art stuff. Productive this time, as well as being experimental and colourful. Oh, and all of them are traditional.

An angel

Note to self: fixative and markers do not work good together. So the explosion of red at the bottom is in no way intentional.
Thought it is beyond me as to why only the red smudged everywhere and the rest stayed put.

When I was colouring her wings in, I was like, "Huh, the colours remind me of a fish." Not good right there.

Inked with a sepia Prismacolor fine liner.
Coloured with COPICs.

Stranger
Tried to do the salt gimmicky thing with it, except the paper wasn't wet enough, I dumped a whole bunch of salt in one collected place, and I didn't grind the salt enough prior to sprinkling it on (since we use kosher salt due to it not containing iodine, but that's another story for another time). So, given the conditions, it kind of failed.

Not too crazy about the yellow/orange background, either. I thought it'd contrast nicely with the darkness and the purple of the subjects, but now it makes it more happy then it should be intended. Should've stuck with gray or blue or something.

Made with Artist's Loft and Talens watercolours and Artist's Loft water soluble pencils.

Hook, Line, and Sinker
Might remember this picture before scribbled into my agenda. I've been thinking about redrawing some of my agenda pictures, due to me liking the concept but horribly failing at conveying it initially. I think it goes without saying that this is a much better rendition. I mean, the pose, for one, looks a lot better. The only thing that sucks in that I couldn't fit the fishing pole in.

Maybe I should've used a reference for the heart, even though I just finished learning about it in Bio. I'm quite acquainted with it, especially since I just studied it for who knows how long for midterms.

Background was a pain to do, plus it looks pretty bad. I was waffling between drawing this and watching a horror movie, too (not a good one, mind you).

Drawn in pencil.

Skull
The diagonal lines are there because I trimmed the paper into a weird shape. It looks pretty cool set in front of its news print background (made of rectangles I cut out of the Chinese newspaper that was lying around; don't worry because I only destroyed the ads).

Trying to mimic the black and white style of Miwa Shirow. Like, seriously. Zero screen tones, just pure black and white, man. I don't know how well I did with this, though. I think there should be more pure black areas, but you know how hard those are to colour when you have a 0.05 pen?

Skull (obviously) was heavily referenced, and thus looks great. Like it's my favourite damn part, even though I know it's nowhere near anatomically correct!

Inked with Sakura Pigma pens.

Tears
I don't like how the eye makes the picture so top-heavy so I tried to even it out with the tear-drop shape going on. Used yellow and orange for the same reason for another picture above.

I like how her face has a tear-drop shape, though the neck kind of kills it.

I also plan to add some details using the spanking new dip pen set I bought yesterday and some white ink. I'm not going to update the picture if I do, though, so just imagine its.

Made with Talens watercolours on index card.

Alright, and now lets say they're all related to love so I can say that it's related to Valentines Day.

(Giant Pikachu - OMFG.)

Fanart: Hiiro no Kakera

I'm a cheapo. Even though I'm an exec for animu club, I stated early on that if we get like a pathetic amount of entries to the fanart contests, then I'm going to submit something into it. Well, last time I checked, we got a grand total of one entry. I'm not going to make it that easy.

Theme:It's better to give than to recieve.

(Thanks, Jenny, for the theme. *cough*)

Originally, it was going to be a 4koma kind of thing so people can actually get the theme. Here are sum sketches.
Actually drawn on the same sheet of paper this picture was done on.

So this was going to be the "winning" picture, in the sense that it was going to be coloured-in nicely and they won't be in chibi.

At this point, I scrapped the whole picture because I didn't want to draw all the chibi dudes, and I was growing to hate the picture the more I continued. The lines were too thick for my tastes, and everyone looked a little funneh.

It was a shame because I really like how I did her legs.

So, I opened up a new openCanvas window and drew a totally new picture.
Initial sketch
First sketch to get the pose right.
Second sketch (drawn over first one)
Second sketch to clean the picture up. I think this one looks better than the actual thing, honestly.

Half-assed end result.
Hiiro no Kakera shoujo-esque fanart
Event File

Initially, the bottom picture was going to be cell-shaded, but meh. I didn't think it looked nice half-way into the picture.
Half-assed background is is half-assed.

Bleh, with a picture this crappy, I think I'll lose (but not to that one legit entry, anyways).

Also got an Ipashaa (or something like that) version stashed somewhere, but I scrapped it for Hiiro no Kakera (for no real reason, mind you, other than the latter's designs were easier).

Sketched with mechanical pencil on paper.

For Valentines Day

...eh, not really. But it has to do with hearts, somewhat.

Excuse the obvious emo-ness in the following picture.

"You missed"
Check out my sexy handwriting used for the deep, insightful phrases. I know you love it.
My anatomy skillage here is equally sexy, too.

Didn't bother inking it. Bleh. After my Kurama picture, I don't want to fine line anything in a long time, ick.

The picture looked cooler in my head, trust me.
Probably going to redo it in the future because I made the image in my head die in my eyes.

Just finished painting this one. I warns you now that there's really mild nudity, but if you're sqeemish about that kind of stuff (like, how old are you again?) then I advice you to avoid it.

I guess this is a Valentines card of some sort.
Did something simplier than usual. However, generally, I like how this turned out. (Way better than the first one, at least.)

I don't like how the blue hair is taking up all the attention, as its supposed to be the heart. Though I do like how the composition all point towards the heart anyways.

I hate how it warped still, though.

First picture made with Copics on Canson sketch book paper.

Why did you leave me standing

I don't like this picture at all, bleh. But I vowed I'd draw something for Feburary, for once. So here you go.

"Why did you leave me standing there in the rain?"
Yes, those diagonal lines are supposed to be rain. I know it looks bad, but a) I'm a graphics noob, and b) openCanvas isn't PS.
It looks a lot better as a thumbnail, trust me.

Anyways, partly inspired by Rain by E-Type. The line it was inspired from is obvious.
I think I interpreted the song way more dark than the official video does. A lot less related to cars and women, too (don't know where those fit in, honestly).

Started off as a line-less speed paint, but the dress turned out uber crappy with me trying to make it look like its wet and sticking to the skin. The face turned out pretty bad, too, with me trying make it look like its in the darkness.

Done in one layer, at least.

And filters make it look worse than it actually does.

Japan Day

Last Friday was our year's Japan day. In the end, I was in charge of doing a lot of the art-related stuff (not that I minded).

Last year, I believe that we were just given paper and some drawing supplies and told to make a poster. This year, it was made into a contest. I teamed up with my friend and was supposed to get it done over winter break, but didn't. It's okay, though, because we finished it in a day or two anyways.

Japan Day poster
My friend did the line art, but unfortunately I don't have it. I was going to add colour on it, too, but she brought up a good point about it being black and white anyways!

In the end, there was like one other entry, and it wasn't really one meant to be printed out in bulk with its 3D elements and all that. So my friend, the other competitor, and I ultimately won the contest.

I'm glad people liked it, even though the poster is pretty much the title.

Also, check out the backdrop I (and by that, I really mean my art teacher - he should get all the credit for it, haha) did for kimono pictures.
Kimono pictures backdrop
Pretty much, I found some pictures in a book, my teacher put it on acetate, and we traced it on a huge sheet of paper made up of smaller sheets of paper, and it got painted and all that good stuff.
It's pretty big, man. Probably a little over my height. When I passed the idea to him, initially, I was thinking of something that would be 1/4th the size of what it turned out to be. The backdrops of the past were tiny compared to this. It's a shame, though, because though old, I thought one of them could've seen another year.

As for this year, since they were reusing my backdrop, I was given another project to do. And that was making a banner which included the club name.

"Japan Club: Japan Day"
Friend snapped a WIP version of the banner when it was still drying in the hallway. No credits go to me.

Frankly, I had really little to do with the banner. Once again, I did the same "transfer to acetate and trace" gimmick again. We actually were in the staff room, stealing some paper when my teacher noticed how the staff room wall was perfect for tracing. I think I got a couple of stares from teachers passing by, but anyways, back on topic. My dad did the calligraphy for the kanji and katakana (though he doesn't know anything about Japanese, his katakana still looked better than mine), and it's pretty obvious where the bottom words came from. I just traced it and painted it black.

And I mentioned this is the WIP version of it, right? Though not very significant, my art teacher used some red spray paint to make a gradient on the bottom. Yup, that's all you guys missed out on.

As for the actual day itself, it was as hectic as ever, though the cafe is crowded with people regardless. I was in charge of kimono pictures, like last year. And like last year, we were short on people (or at least, people who were supposed to be helping us) and kimono tying isn't something you can mass produce in a sense. I'm surprised that many of our customers turned out to be staff.
